Professional Development Opportunities (PDO)
Professional Development Opportunities (PDO) is an endowed program that provides funds for library staff to pursue short-term professional development activities.
Any faculty or staff member of an ACA library may apply. More than one person from an institution may apply, but each person must apply separately. Requests are capped at $2,000 per activity.
In the past, applicants have used PDOs to:
Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars
Visit libraries working on similar projects to learn about equipment, techniques, etc.
Enroll in online courses that were useful to their positions
How to apply:
Click the 'Apply Now' button to complete the application
A letter of endorsement, signed and on institutional letterhead, is required from your immediate supervisor and also the library director if that is not your immediate supervisor
Endorsement letters will be uploaded during the application process
Applications are received by the BCLA January 15, May 15, and August 15 of each year
Applications are reviewed and awards given by the Administrative Issues Committee
Once you have finished the professional development activity, you must submit a report detailing what you did, evaluating the experiences you had, and commenting on the progress you or your library has made because of it. More detailed instructions can be found in the Guidelines.
Requests are capped at $2,000 per activity.
