Technical Services Coordinator

Appalachian College Association

The Appalachian College Association (ACA) invites applications and nominations for the position of Technical Services Coordinator.

The Appalachian College Association is a nonprofit consortium of 35 private four-year liberal arts member institutions located across the central Appalachian region. Collectively serving over 54,000 students, the Association actively seeks to enhance and develop both its member institutions and the people of their home communities through higher education and related services. One of the most vital services provided by the ACA is the Bowen Central Library of Appalachia (BCLA). The BCLA was organized to provide ACA member institutions with the most advanced library information resources at the most economical price. All 35 institutions of the ACA have access to a core collection of more than 150,000 ebook titles as well as additional electronic resources. The BCLA also provides a Shared Catalog on an Innovative Interfaces platform for 28 member institutions. An integrated library system provides data about physical holdings as well as access to electronic resources, and includes a proxy server to provide authenticated remote access to resources for faculty, staff, and students from anywhere in the world.

The Technical Services Coordinator reports to the Director of Library Programs, and has particular responsibility for providing for the daily operations of the BCLA system, serving as a technical resource for consortial library staff, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems.

Bachelor’s degree required, ALA-accredited masters degree or equivalent experience preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in managing library systems such as Innovative Interfaces, strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, and excellent MS Office skills. Preferred characteristics include database management skills, web development, and/or experience managing electronic resources.

Applicants should submit a cover letter outlining their qualifications for this position, a current resume, and the names, email addresses, and phone numbers for three professional references (references will not be contacted without permission of finalists). All application materials must be submitted as PDF files to Library@acaweb.org. A successful background check will be required prior to employment.

Review of applications begins October 30, and continues until the position is filled.
