2024 Pre-Summit Workshops
The ACA is pleased to to supplement our 2024 Summit with several Pre-Summit Workshops on Wednesday, September 25, the day prior to the general conference. If you wish to attend a workshop, please be sure to indicate your chosen option when you complete Summit registration. Attendees may choose to attend only a Wednesday Workshop, only the Summit, or they may select both Pre-Summit and Summit activities for a reduced registration fee.

Workshop 1: Integrating AI in Higher Education: Enhancing Teaching and Policy Development
This interactive workshop explores the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and academia. Through a combination of presentations, hands-on activities, and group discussions, participants will learn how to leverage AI tools to design innovative assignments and develop policies that try to encourage ethical and responsible AI integration in higher education settings. Anticipated learning outcomes include participants' ability to design assignments that incorporate AI technologies to enhance student learning and engagement, as well as develop policies addressing considerations related to AI use.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will be equipped with practical strategies for integrating AI in teaching and policy development within their respective institutions. This workshop is designed for ACA faculty, staff and administration at all levels of experience with AI technologies. The workshop aims at individuals interested in leveraging AI to innovate teaching practices and enact policies that promote responsible AI integration in higher education.

Workshop 2: Departmental Leadership for Faculty Belonging and Inclusion
Strong departmental or academic program leadership is always in demand. Join your fellow department chairs and program leaders to enhance your leadership capacity by incorporating more inclusive practices into your work and department. Participants can expect to learn about several potential points of inclusion intervention within the faculty cycle: within searches, promotion and tenure policies, and retention efforts.
Participants will leave this workshop not only with an understanding of the value of more inclusive department practices but also with skills and strategies to implement inclusive department practices to promote belonging for all faculty. This workshop is presented as part of the NSF ADVANCE grant, Appalachian Colleges Collaborating for Equity.

Workshop 3: Skills for Behavioral Intervention Teams
Student safety and well-being is a pressing concern for college campuses. Implementing evidence-based practices and policies developed in support of behavioral intervention teams and care teams is essential for supporting students. Join colleagues from the ACA in this workshop presented by Dr. Makenzie Schiemann, President of the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment. Registration in this workshop is reserved for faculty and staff who serve on their institution's behavioral intervention or care team.
