WorldShare Management Services: select a single title in Collection Manager

Resources for BCLA Cohort in WorldShare Management Services (WMS)

How to Select a Single Title in Collection Manager

This guide explains how to select a single title in OCLC Collection Manager. In this example, a Cambridge eBook was purchased through GOBI under an existing eSupplier agreement with Cambridge University Press. GOBI confirmed the purchase by email and provided a direct link to the title.

Important: Before proceeding, check whether your institution has autoloads enabled for this vendor. Manual title selections can interfere with existing autoload configurations.

Step 1 - Locate a collection that contains the title.

Start by searching for the title in OCLC Collection Manager. Look for a collection that includes the title and matches your institution's holdings or licensing arrangement.

Step 2 - Review title detail

Click the title from your search results to open the title detail screen. Review the default linking format provided by the system. You can copy and paste the sample link into a browser to verify that it opens correctly and follows the expected vendor URL structure. If the link opens the resource successfully and matches your vendor’s format, the title is likely linkable through Discovery once selected.

Step 3 - Select the title

When you're ready to select a title, you can do so directly from the search results shown in Step 1, or by opening the collection and locating the title from within it.

Click Select Title to make a single title selection. Collection Manager will take a few minutes to update and index the change. While you wait, you can move ahead to Step 4 to verify title linking for the collection.

Step 4 - Review collection linking

Open the Linking > Local tab in the collection record to confirm that your links will work as expected for your institution.

Click to view an image of the local linking tab for this example.

Note: Collection Manager uses the label "EZproxy" for both EZproxy and OpenAthens configurations. In this example, the default settings apply the OpenAthens redirector prefix, which is stored in your Institution Settings.

Help with linking configuration

In many cases, the default linking pattern will work. However, OpenAthens may require a percent-encoded target URL for links to function correctly—especially for certain platforms or newer content providers.

You can generate a properly encoded link using the OpenAthens Link Generator.
